I have been doing design research on corsets for a new project. Here are some interesting facts.

Catherine de Medici often gets credit for corsets because of her ban on thick waists at court attendance in the mid 1500s. For the next 300+ years women used the corset as their main support garment.

Many corset wearing women in the 1500-1600s wished for a 16 inch waist, mind you, the average waist today is 33inch and the average model's waist is 25inch.
